Wildlife on your doorstep
April 1st 2020Due to the current circumstances I, like all the staff and volunteers, am missing being a part of the incredible team at Tophill Low. It's been a few months since a school group has visited the reserve as the last group visit was at the end of November. Meanwhile, I have been in local schools working with pupils learning about all things to do with water and in […]
Council warning as seagulls become aggressive during lockdown
With a lack of visitors to the coast there is less food for seagulls
Call for cigarette-style warning labels on petrol pumps
There could also be increased restrictions on fossil fuel adverts
Hopefully if you've not done so then being incarcerated inside on the current cold days is a great opportunity to catch up on some of the old reports and familiarise yourself with what to see when we do finally get back; The link is on the reports tab above. Regretfully with everything else going on over the last few years we haven't delivered any recent annual […]

Perhaps the flooding was a blessing for us in terms that we have been used to the shut down for several months and it's merely a continuation, so strangely the current crisis in our world is […]
2 minute beach cleans up and down the Yorkshire coast!
We have launched 12 new ‘2 minute beach clean’ stations to make picking up litter easier for everyone.
A climate and wildlife emergency
Yorkshire Wildlife Trust has declared a climate and wildlife emergency – signalling the need for us to intensify our efforts to provide the vision and voice for wildlife across Yorkshire.
Back to nature
After a long hiatus Tophill Low Nature Reserve will re-open on Saturday the 21st of March. My apologies for the lack of updates; I've started writing repeatedly only to have to scrub it when we have gone from one extreme to the other in recent weeks - by late January we were wondering ourselves what the fuss was all about, but February we did an about turn with a […]
Black Throated Thrush
I had a ride out to Grimsby today for the long staying black Throated Thrush. It showed week straight away for about an hour then flew up into the trees. By then the wind had got up and it was a bit chilly so time to go. One of the easiest rates I have ever seen and quite a smart bird too.
